Health Sovereignty for Trinidad and Tobago

Exploring What a Truly Independent Health System Could Look Like for Trinidad and Tobago

· Trinidad and Tobago,Health Systems Strengthening

At Regal State of Health Consultancy, we celebrate our Caribbean countries' Independence through our Health Sovereignty series. To us, health sovereignty is having the power to shape a health system that works for every citizen. In this article, we will explore what this could look like for the twin-island republic, Trinidad and Tobago.

Independence could look like free annual screenings for noncommunicable diseases —such as blood pressure, blood sugar, and high cholesterol —wellness services in every community health center, and healthy food choices available in school and work environments.

Independence could look like access in schools and regional health authorities, nonstop crisis hotlines, culturally rooted mental health support, and violence and road safety treated as public health issues.

Independence could look like heat and food action plans backed by funding, local farmers and fisherfolk having an abundant food supply to feed schools and hospitals, and air and water monitoring that everyone can trust.

Independence could include stronger primary care services and fewer emergency room visits, safer communities and healthier Carnival seasons, and a system that works for every Trinbagonian.

Work with Regal State of Health Consultancy by buying our products and exploring our services to build a healthier, more independent Trinidad and Tobago: "Together We Aspire, Together We Achieve".
